Academics

St. Bakhita Academy follows the Kenyan Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) as approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). The curriculum is designed to nurture holistic learners by developing knowledge, skills, values and competencies that prepare learners for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship.

Whether it is our books or hands-on training, we make sure each student gets personal attention to cope up and flourish in every subject for better scores and a brighter future.

Overview

Early Years Education (PP1 – PP2)

In the Early Years, learning is child-centred, play-based and thematic. Teachers use integrated learning experiences that allow children to explore concepts through play, storytelling, music, art and guided activities.

A thematic approach helps learners make meaningful connections across different learning areas while developing foundational skills in communication, numeracy, creativity and social interaction within a safe and nurturing environment.

Lower Primary School (Grade 1 – Grade 3)

Lower Primary focuses on building strong literacy, numeracy and social skills through experiential learning. Learners actively engage in hands-on activities, group work and guided discovery to support curiosity and confidence.

Learning is integrated across subjects, enabling children to relate classroom knowledge to their everyday experiences while developing values, independence and a positive attitude towards learning.

Upper Primary School (Grade 4 – Grade 6)

At Upper Primary, learners deepen their understanding of key learning areas while developing critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills. Instruction emphasizes practical application, research and collaboration.

Continuous assessment and project-based learning are used to monitor progress, identify strengths and support individual learning needs as learners prepare for the transition to Junior Secondary School.

Junior Secondary School (Grade 7 – Grade 9)

The Junior Secondary phase builds on the competencies developed in primary school and prepares learners for senior pathways. Learners are exposed to a broad curriculum that strengthens academic knowledge, technical skills, creativity and innovation.

Teaching focuses on inquiry-based learning, real-life problem-solving and career awareness, enabling learners to identify their talents, interests and future learning pathways.

Educational Technology & Digital Learning

St. Bakhita Academy integrates technology into teaching and learning to enhance understanding and engagement. Learners use digital tools to research, collaborate, create and present their work across learning areas.

ICT skills are embedded within the curriculum, preparing learners to become responsible and confident digital citizens in a rapidly evolving technological world.

Learning Support & Inclusive Education

The school recognizes that every learner is unique. Teachers provide differentiated instruction and targeted support to meet diverse learning needs.

Learners who require additional academic support or enrichment are closely monitored, guided and supported to ensure they achieve their full potential in a caring and inclusive environment.

Learning Development & Reading Culture

A strong emphasis is placed on reading and language development across all levels. Learners are encouraged to read widely, explore different genres and develop comprehension, creativity and critical thinking skills.

Lessons are engaging and learner-centred, encouraging pupils to ask questions, express ideas and make connections between their learning and the world around them.

Assessment, Evaluation & Monitoring

Learner progress is continuously assessed using formative and summative assessments in line with CBC guidelines. Teachers track individual progress, provide constructive feedback and adjust instruction to support learning growth.

Parents are kept informed of learner progress through regular communication and reports, fostering strong school–home partnerships.

Learning Journeys & Competency Development

Each learner’s progress is documented through learning portfolios, observations and project work. These learning journeys reflect the learner’s growth in knowledge, skills, values and competencies over time.

This development-focused approach ensures teaching is responsive, meaningful and tailored to support each learner’s strengths and areas for improvement.
