Lower Primary School (Grade 1 – Grade 3)
Building strong foundations for lifelong learning!

At St. Bakhita Academy Lower Primary, learners build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, creativity and social development within a supportive and engaging environment. Learning is active, meaningful and designed to spark curiosity and confidence.

Our classrooms encourage exploration, collaboration and communication, helping learners develop essential skills while nurturing positive attitudes towards school and learning.

A Competency-Based Learning Approach

Lower Primary follows the Kenyan Competency Based Curriculum, where learning focuses on developing key competencies such as communication, critical thinking, creativity, citizenship and self-efficacy.

Teachers guide learners through hands-on activities, discussions, storytelling and practical tasks that allow children to learn by doing and applying knowledge in real-life contexts.

Learner-Centred & Experiential Learning

Lessons are carefully structured to be interactive and engaging. Learners participate in group work, play-based tasks, projects and guided practice that support different learning styles and abilities.

This approach helps learners gain confidence, independence and a deeper understanding of concepts across all learning areas.

Continuous Assessment & Support

Assessment in Lower Primary is ongoing and formative, focusing on tracking progress and identifying areas for growth. Teachers provide regular feedback and personalised support to ensure each learner develops at their own pace.

Parents are actively involved through communication and updates on learner progress, strengthening the school–home partnership.

A Nurturing Environment

We place strong emphasis on emotional well-being, values and social skills. Learners are guided to develop respect, responsibility and cooperation as they grow academically and socially.
